You decide how to face your FEAR.

My husband occasionally takes me with him on his business trips and we make a mini-vacation out of it.  During one of these outings, he asked me to drive while he went over his notes for his client meeting. For most couples, the typical response to switching drivers is “sure”.  For us, it was different: This was his new BMW M3, which I have never driven AND it has a manual transmission! Uggh. So, my initial response was “No way”.  I envisioned a sizable argument resulting after he tells me how to drive, when to shift and that I’m going too slow.  I talk to people all the time about overcoming their fear, however I had let fear dictate my decision immediately.  After having a brief internal conversation with myself I said that I was not going be moved by fear but I will be moved what God’s word says about me:  2 Timothy 1:7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control. After this internal dialogue and conviction by God, I changed my mind and offered to drive.  He looked at me, gave me a knowing smile and said “great!”. After a 5-minute tutorial on the finer points of shifting and reason for that 3rd pedal, I drove his car for 45 minutes.  While he wasn’t thrilled when a Prius passed us, I felt proud of my small accomplishment.  I overcame that fear and helped out my best friend. What about you? Do you have some things in your life that you are fearful about? Don’t be.  Work on your God confidence.  Bear in mind that he promises to be with you by your side and if you would just trust him with your life he will direct your path. 1 John 4: 18 There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life—fear of death, fear of judgment—is one not yet fully formed in love. Never be afraid to try something new.
